This new trail program is focused on individuals who love spending time in the outdoors and have an inclination toward being innovative and creative. We aim to encourage artistic expression in both individual and collaborative ways. While we will certainly make the most of all the normal and wonderful aspects of being on trail; unbelievable scenery, great people, alpine lakes, sleeping under the stars, swimming, laughing, playing, and building lasting friendships, we will also make extra time for artistic creation! The 11 day hike will include less hiking distance than other Unalayee trips (usually less than five miles per day, plus several layovers), leaving time and space for other exciting activities.
Possible activities include but are neither required nor limited to:
- Singing songs and writing music
- Playing improvisation and acting games
- Telling and writing stories
- Learning and playing musical instruments
- Solo time to encourage personal creativity
- Planning the greatest Unalayee campfire of all-time!
- Storytime
No activities will be intensive, but rather informal and open to the myriad levels of engagement and creativity brought by each individual. We do not expect any particular level of competence or completion in any creative element and we will of course include plenty of time for everyday fun like swimming, playing cards and board games, doing arts and crafts, relaxing lakeside, eating good food, and simply enjoying each other’s company and the beautiful spaces we are in.
As your counselors we will bring several musical instruments of our own, and also some printed out comedy sketches and music that we can use together for some directed fun! In turn, along with the clothing and gear necessary for a Unalayee trip we strongly encourage people to bring:
- Any lightweight instrument, even if you have no idea how to play it!
- A printout of a favorite theatrical sketch!
- A printout of a favorite song to learn and play with others!
- A skill or talent you would like to share or teach to other campers
and staff!
