6th Grade
Sixth grade students maintain a rigorous focus on the core curriculum of math, literature, and language arts with multiple teachers and multiple classrooms, but also enjoy after school clubs and competitive sports - where time with friends also offers opportunities to take on leadership roles.
Stratford School sixth graders are celebrated by their classmates when they propose a unique idea or solution in the classroom. They also know if they try and fail, that failure is simply part of a valuable process, and they’re in a safe place where it’s okay to make mistakes. Sixth grade at Stratford School is a brilliant combination of challenging, collaborative work with like-minded students, in classrooms where teachers truly care about their students, and help them to achieve at their highest level.
7th Grade
For the first time, seventh graders are able to choose to focus their intellectual energy on computer science or specialty classes such as speech and debate, fine and performing arts, or French language - and to discover their individual interests and passions. Students really begin to understand what they love most about school and learning, and to determine what they will pursue in high school, college, and as a career.
Stratford seventh graders use the 21st century skills of communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking in every class. They delve deeply into complex problems, and work together to develop solutions. They learn to ask questions, and to always look for more information to inform their decisions and answers. Students have high aspirations for themselves, and are already looking forward to their very bright futures.
8th Grade
Our eighth graders exhibit remarkable depth of character; respect for their classmates, teachers, and families; and the “sparkling intelligence” that characterizes all Stratford students.
Stratford’s intentional approach to educating the whole child results in young adults who are gifted communicators, skilled and generous collaborators, and creative problem solvers.
The integration of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) into all aspects of our curriculum allows students to explore and excel in areas requiring core knowledge, as well as their individual passions such as musical theater, foreign language, and creative writing.
