It’s all about the details! Learn to draw flat sketches with a front and back view that includes every detail needed to sew your design. We will practice several versions of collars, necklines, sleeves, hems, ruffles, pleats, pockets, zippers, etc. You will also illustrate your designs on a figure and learn to add dimension with shading using markers and pens.
Our new Fashion Illustration course was designed in a series of 6 week building blocks to give fashion design students the various drawing skills they need to create vibrant and original design presentations. The course starts with how to draw the fashion figure in pencil, and develops by adding garments with more and more detail. It will show students how to gather inspiration and build mood boards to further develop their own designs. It progresses through drawing the front and back view of a flat sketch before returning to the figure to explore the principles of light and shadow. Finally the course will dive into color and how to render fabrics such as knits, denim and velvet before teaching more complex tasks like floral prints, stripes and plaids. Ultimately students will be guided towards developing their own personal expressions of style.
Each course can be taken individually, but we recommend taking them in order for best results.
