Get inspired by building a mood board! Then using your fashion figure as a template, you will learn the process of making quick sketches or croquis. You will learn how to draw basic garment shapes for a shirt, blouse, jacket, pants, skirt and dress on a figure. Start to develop your own designs by changing proportions and style lines. Explore fabrications to understand the differences between drawing knits versus wovens.
Our new Fashion Illustration course was designed in a series of 6 week building blocks to give fashion design students the various drawing skills they need to create vibrant and original design presentations. The course starts with how to draw the fashion figure in pencil, and develops by adding garments with more and more detail. It will show students how to gather inspiration and build mood boards to further develop their own designs. It progresses through drawing the front and back view of a flat sketch before returning to the figure to explore the principles of light and shadow. Finally the course will dive into color and how to render fabrics such as knits, denim and velvet before teaching more complex tasks like floral prints, stripes and plaids. Ultimately students will be guided towards developing their own personal expressions of style.
Each course can be taken individually, but we recommend taking them in order for best results.
