Captivate S.T.E.A.M. Camp Jr is camp for ages 7-10 which incorporates science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics and P.E. into the activities for each week. Our S.T.E.A.M. camp inspires each child with individualized attention and problem solving projects, and our camp is kept intentionally small so that children can build relationships with each other and the staff.
2021 Themes for Virtual Captivate S.T.E.A.M. Camps Jr.
Sample Daily Schedule
Virtual Optical Science
Investigate light, color and optical illusions and learn about lenses and how our eye and brain work together to make sense of what you see. Students will get to keep the “optical science” kit for extended learning beyond the camp.
Virtual Gemology
Explore minerals and crystal shapes, the 3 basic rock types and the rock cycle, identify minerals through tests, and create a crack open your own geode. Students will get to keep the “crystal, rock & mineral science” kit for extended learning beyond the camp.
Virtual Electricity & Magnetism
Explore electricity with easy snap-together blocks, and investigate the relationship between electricity and magnetism. Play with a motor and an electromagnet. Students will get to keep the “electricity and magnetism” kit for extended learning beyond the camp.
Virtual Microscopes
Embark on an adventure into the hidden and magnificent microscopic world. Students will use their new microscope to observe prepared slides, such as insects, pollens and fibers. Students will also prepare some of their own slides such as seeing the cells in onion skin. The microscope has a magnification of 114x to 750x. This is a great introduction to microscopes for the budding biologist. Students get to keep the “Biology Lab kit” and slides for hours of fun beyond camp.
Catapults and Crossbows
Launching projectiles can be so much fun! Students will build working models of catapults, crossbows and trebuchets. Explore physics concepts like Newton’s laws of motion, force, energy and gravity. Projectiles are safe with a foam tip. Students will get to keep the “catapults & crossbows” kit for extended learning beyond the camp.
